G H O S T C A L L I N G An ephemeral art installation by Leon Tan, Emily Garden, & Matt Barnes
A set of mobile phones are suspended within trees at the SPLORE 2008 outdoor music and arts festival in New Zealand. These phones are programmed to revive orchestrated calls at random times, resulting in a ring tone symphony that evokes the bird calls common to the land and trees. Additional to these programmed calls, members of the public are invited to mix realities by participating in this interactive project. People from Splore and around the world are invited to interact with the work by calling the phones and adding to the sonic experience. All diverts are deactivated and you will not pay for the call as long as the phones are live over Friday 8 (Noon onwards) and Sunday 10 February 2008 (ends at 10am). You can also text in messages or call in to a phone suspended within reach of Splore audiences at +6421 02238027! You will have to pay for texts and calls to this phone. List of phones with associated ringtones (all diverts and voicemail deactivated so the phones will simply keep ringing till disconnected. You will not pay for the calls during the event times): 021 0223 7958 bell bird 021 0223 9052 epic buildup 021 0223 8989 low pitch old skool 021 0223 8053 robot 021 0223 9005 squeaky frog 021 0223 8038 husky birdsong 021 0223 8051 high pitch classic ring 021 0223 8054 squeak 021 0223 8992 home phone 021 0223 9007 crickets 021 0223 8045 squelch 021 0223 7962 xylophone 021 0223 8993 standard old skool 021 0223 7981 triangle 021 0223 7976 rooster 021 0223 7990 low pitch classic ring Lecturer Public Health & Psychosocial Studies Faculty of Health & Environmental Sciences AUT University Private Bag 92006 Auckland 1142 New Zealand P Skype (leon-tan) P +64 9 9219999 Ext. 7752 F +64 9 9219780 E [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Ada_list mailing list [email protected] http://aotearoadigitalarts.org.nz/
