NZ Marmite is widely misunderstood or mistaken: Americans consider it a
masochistic health-spread while Europeans confuse it with the
diesel-based English Marmite, rightly running screaming from any product
of the same name..

recently an Australian friend came to stay for two weeks in our Madrid
apartment. like all self-professed Vegemite lovers, his secret and
terrifying desire for Sanitarium Marmite was not safe for long. so it
followed that in those two weeks we lost another half-kilo jar of our
sacred spread: his morning toast leathered black and eaten in the image
of patriotic shame.

a strange kind of loneliness is settling in whose source is that last
500g jar standing resolutely amidst a veritable freakshow of European
spreadables.

the situation is nothing short of grim: my wife (a Spaniard) now
considers that Sanitarium Marmite on toast renders hundreds of years of
European breakfast tradition entirely obsolete: an iron-enriched lever
that propels her from bed. my Spanish cat makes unsettling guttural
sounds - sounds that appear to come from beyond his body - when he sees
the logo..

has any Kiwi managed to find a steady source of Sanitarium Marmite in
Europe?

in B12 we trust,
