just after you've been to Tiny Noise in Lisboa, head north-east to Asturias,
Spain for the
Homo Ludens Ludens conference and exhibition..
LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial presents HOMO LUDENS
LUDENS, an international exhibition and conference examining play as a
principal element of today's world, and highlighting its necessity for
our contemporary societies. Following the exhibitions GAMEWORLD and
PLAYWARE, that reflected respectively on the different playful and
social sides of gaming creativity and interactive art, HOMO LUDENS
LUDENS now sets the setting that embraces these data and looks into the
notion of play in a wider spectrum, presenting how it has evolved in our
digital times.

if you are planning to turn up, email me and we can have a proper
Asturian cider together in Gijon.
worth mentioning that visiting Northern Spain really challenges popular
conceptions of 'Spanishness'. Asturias and Galicia were the favourite
roosts of the early Celts for several centuries before being kicked out
by the Romans around the 4C BC and fleeing for Britain. there were many
times more Celtic settlements in Galicia and Asturias than there were in
Britain/Scotland/Ireland put together. the bagpipes, kilts, glyphs and
celtic songs still hold strong in these areas, albeit with a Latin
tongue nowadays and as such they consider themselves a Celtic culture.
blue eyes and blond hair are not at all uncommon in that region either,
thanks to an obligatory visit from the Vikings around 850AD..
cheers,
