Dear Friends
On Thursday 14 August at 5.30pm you are invited to celebrate the
opening of two very special events: The Michael Nicholson Studio
Visual Music Project Stage 3: Ops 1-4 and This Is Experimental: A
festival of experimental film and filmmakers.
Michael Nicholson is a painter, sculptor, photographer and video
artist who first came to New Zealand in the 1950s to work at Elam
School of Fine Art. Currently in his nineties his latest work The
Visual Music Project: Stage 3 Op.s 1-4 is inspired by the abstract
expressionist paintings of Wassily Kandinsky and imagines the
possibilities if the painter had worked with a video synthesizer.
This is Experimental: A festival of experimental film and film makers
brings together local and international guests to present screenings,
talks and a workshop from the outer edges of cinematic adventure.
Highlights include the visit of British film artist Guy Sherwin and a
screening of the films of Len Lye. For a full listing of events see
