$8/$6
The Goethe-Institut in cooperation with The Film Archive Wellington
proudly present three evenings of German music video and film
entitled Saving Pop Culture. Special appearance by film maker
Christina von Greve.
Thursday October 9, 7pm - Saving Pop Culture
The 16 best examples of German music videos produced between 2003 and
2007. Awarded the MuVi Prize at the International Short Film Festival
Oberhausen for best visualisation. “The music video ... is an equal
and interactive medium of expression for an audio-visual art form
that exists in its own right.” - Lars Henrik Gass, Director,
International Short Film Festival Oberhausen
Friday October 10, 7pm - The Dreams and Flicker
Originally made as an audio artwork in the 1960s by British artist
Barry Bermange, The Dreams consists of people recounting the details
of their sleeping imaginations. In 2001 von Greve and collaborator C-
Schultz added a collage of amateur film clips to the audio turning
the work into a film. The Dreams also features an ethereal soundtrack
by Delia Derbyshire, composer of the original theme for the BBC's
Doctor Who.
Saturday October 11, 7pm - Decay Loops
Christina von Greve's Decay Loops are images attacked by time,
chemical breakdown and neglect. Scenes from years gone by come into
view, bubble and disintegrate in spectacular fashion. Local two-piece
experimental group Bright Colours provide accompaniment, drawing
inspiration from the short stop-start attack of late 1970’s American
musical movement no-wave, sometimes as a guitar and drum duo or in a
face to face drum attack.
