An open invitation from the Film Archive to Auckland-based members of this list.

On Thursday 20 August at 6pm, we're launching our new nationwide digital resource medianet. It's being held at Artspace and is an exciting new project. It would be great to meet members of this list.

If you're able to come along, please RSVP as per the instructions on the attached invite (now I'm wondering if this list allows attachments?).

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Cheers
Anna

isnt accurate at least on behalf of the points i made, as i do oppose
copyright. Its not a provocative stance, although in this context it
would have been provocative

I don't mean for you to alter the text, just pointing out that my

Yes, sorry. I had misgivings about that paragraph, which I knew didn't really capture your position. In retrospect I should probably have left it at the first sentence ("Most of us support the idea of copyright in
general, if only due to a lack of plausible alternatives").

its no problem. i only use the gpl, by the way, because copyright forces me to use a license. this is the best given the circumstances. the other issues, such as essays i have written on free formats, are written given
that we live in a world with copyright. the more i work with copyright
the more i realise that free licenses are a necessary hack to a system
that i can no longer understand - copyright

However, if I were to try defending the sentence, I would treat the two clauses separately and note that you initially put forward no- copyright
as a provocation[1], and also that you, in practice, do not eschew
copyright because you (e.g.) use the GPL. Then having established each part I would try to pretend the conjunction didn't imply something else.

Another thing I might do is try to change the subject, and ask how your
no-copyright stance interacts with your uses of copyright, and with
various other stances you have taken on copyright issues, such as the
essays making nuanced distinctions between licenses and arguing that
software piracy hurts free software, and so forth[2]. What about all
that?, I would say, and generally try to make your position the topic,
rather than my misrepresentation of it. But I'm not defending the
sentence because I agree it is misleading and I am truly sorry.

Hi CRUMB list lurkers,

for your viewing pleasure, the videos from the first hour
conversations with new media curators which took place as part of the
Curatorial Masterclass Series at CRUMB's research partner Eyebeam Art
and Technology Center in New York in July are now online at Eyebeam's
blip.tv account, with direct RSS feed into the Eyebeam website and
therefore available on the Curatorial Masterclass page, alongside
photos and the pdf of the handouts for each session:

I hope that they are interesting to watch for those who weren't there
(feedback welcome! go easy on us, I had a broken foot and it was
hot!). CRUMB will be working to transcribe these sessions and write
up notes from the roundtable tea-fuelled conversations which took
place after the video camera was turned off, and all will be posted
on the CRUMB site soon.

Thanks for tuning in,
