I understand damian's concern about being absorbed into the education moloch, and that is also a funding consideration - CNZ won't want to prop the education system's new media needs either. however I don't think there should be an exclusive focus on schools at all, rather a broader community focus. Where the monetary funding came from CNZ, but schools/community initiatives would provide infrastructure (venue space outside of the six-seater, advertising, beds for the roving digital artists, etc.). Or maybe there are funding opportunities within the education sector too (-> joint CNZ/edu funding? or would that blow out the project's dimensions?)
also if you think about smalltown nz audiences who are interested in digital arts - actually wanting to reach people rather than trucking around deserted town squares honking the electronic horn - communal structures such as schools/learning centres/artist groups (e.g. the historic quarter in oamaru) will probably be vital. which maybe also opens the question of how community and smalltown-focused this mobile lab really wants to be, and if it may be better off just parking up on k'road and cuba... ie. I think the question of scale needs to be addressed soon. jo _______________________________________________ Ada_list mailing list [email protected] http://aotearoadigitalarts.org.nz/
