Oh, stink Andrew, I would have loved to hear him talk again.

Good point on the Closer Event Relations. ADA has done a bit of this,
like inviting Melinda, who used to be director of ANAT, over for the
Dunedin conference, and personal contacts with David Cranswick from
DLux in Sydney. i was also involved in a Multimedia Art Asia Pacific
project last year, but something a bit more programmatic might be
useful. Sometimes it seems a little that Australian organisations can
view NZ as a poor cousin to the real, exciting, 'international' stuff
happening elsewhere (as I think Damian alludes), but I think this is
changing (or maybe it's my misperception in the first place). And, if
you think of things like the Asia Pacific Triennial in Brisbane,
Australia has a great history of interest and involvement in the
larger region, more so than NZ.

The ADA list was actually started up after I tried to get Lev Manovich
over from Aussie when he visited, and found it difficult to make
contact with interested parties. I guess what might be useful is if
we can know when visitors are coming well in advance. and the other
thing, which i'm sure you're aware of, is finding the time to find the
money to make a visit possible.

Some regional thinking would be smart tho. One of the really nice
things about Cloudland at ISEA in Singapore last year was that sense
of building relationships with people and organisations in the
(larger) neighborhood, rather than solely that attenuated connection
with the Euro-American digital art circuit.

With new(ish) residencies in China, Korea and India, CNZ's (hive)mind
seems to be turning in this direction too.

best,
Stella
