Dear mediagallery friends In association with the Adam Art Gallery you are invited to Line Describing a Cone, Monday 11 March, 7pm at the Wellington Town Hall.
Made by Anthony McCall in 1973 Line Describing a Cone is famous in the history of avant-garde film for its reduction of the cinematic experience to its core ingredients: projected light in physical space. For 30 minutes a beam of light from a 16mm film projector draws a perfect circle on a distant screen. In the space between, a solid cone takes shape as light particles cling to a haze filled room. Transforming the viewer’s usual passive relation to the film medium, this work invites an active engagement with the cinematic experience. Don’t miss this one off opportunity to experience the first of McCall’s extraordinary ‘solid light films’ in the magnificent surroundings of the Wellington Town Hall. Line Describing a Cone Wellington Town Hall Monday 15 March Performance commences promptly at 7pm (Doors open 6.45pm. Doors close 7.00pm. No late entry) $5 entry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark Williams Exhibitions/Project Developer Film Archive mediagallery Nga Kaitiaki O Nga Taonga Whitiahua The New Zealand Film Archive PO Box 11449 Wellington Aotearoa, New Zealand ph +64 4 384 7647 ext 829 fax +64 4 382 9595 http://www.filmarchive.org.nz ON NOW Narvik's Complaint - an installation by Jeremy Diggle http:// narviks.blogspot.com Mon-Weds 9-5pm Thurs-Fri 9-7pm Sat 4-7pm In accordance with the New Zealand Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act, the New Zealand Film Archive needs to review your consent to receiving e-mailed exhibition notices.
