30 sec - 3 MINUTE VIDEO CLIPS FOR ‘BACKYARD DANCES’
FOR ‘THE ELECTROSMOG FESTIVAL’ 19 – 21 March (NZ time)
WITH SUPPORT FROM AOTEAROA DIGITAL ARTISTS NETWORK
BACKYARD DANCES is an on-line community dance that brings the
ordinary and the local to the global stage.
Thanks for those of you who have sent in a backyard video - I need a
few more in order to accumulate enough footage and a substantial
backyard community for this project. Feel free to send in small
videos - they can be as mundane or spectacular as your backyard is
and as mundane or spectacular as your backyard moves are. We just
need footage of the terrain, the objects, colours and textures.
Here's a contribution to the discussion about Deep Local - various
forms of dance for me are a 'deep local' experience that bring you
home to the most local site of all, the body, a site that can be the
basis for deep connectedness with the self and the organs and the
nervous system, the vital components of our bodies that keep us in
connection and able to respond to the world. When we dance the heart
rate increases, the temperature rises, the skin often perspires and
the breath is more apparent. The legs and arms flail about as we
attempt to coordinate our entire system (and often all of this in
relationship with others). My experience of participating in the
dance process is of a deeper connection with my self, my physical
body and my sense of being in the world. This is deeply localising.
Here's the original request... donate your videos to be part of the
Backyard Community Project
30 sec - 3 minute videos transcribing the terrain of your backyard,
the micro and the macro, the gritty and the serene, the discarded and
the sculptured through the lens of a camera. Take us on a journey,
offer a new perspective, strap your camera (it can be any camera as
long as it does end up being in a digital format you can email - or
put online) to your foot, your knee, your elbow or your head and make
a recording of the path made by your private (or not so private)
dance in your own backyard.
Send us your recordings (no more than 3 minute qtvr/mp4) and these
will be transcribed into a choreographic score for a performed series
of solo dances from divergent places. This global ensemble
facilitates a new community of backyard dancers who will perform live
as part of the Electrosmog Festival.
