Altmusic is thrilled to announce Laurel Halo (US) touring New Zealand throughout September in 2013!
Higher harmonic energy is the keystone of Laurel Halo's music, which challenges the boundaries between techno, ambient, pop concrete, dub and synthetic psychedelia. Fixed stylistic territories fold in on themselves, time quickens - it's music for transit and body listening. Halo's live set has electrified dance clubs, DIY venues, festivals and museums both in the States and Europe. In the live context Halo's music becomes heavy, looming and dancefloor driven. A hugely acclaimed artist in the world of electronic music, Laurel Halo's debut album Quarantine (Hyperdub) was named the Wire magazine's #1 album of the year for 2012. Halo's recently hailed Behind The Green Door EP explores the sexually charged common ground between abstract electronics and club-driven beats. "She's a sharp, and sometimes tantalizing performer who knows how to deploy wobble, drone and nervous energy in refreshing fashion." - New York Times “Quarantine feels like something new flickering into being, some strange new cyborg in the process of being birthed: a frankenstein of pop, noise, ambient, industrial, and a ‘hypnagogic’ continuum that takes in the likes of Oneohtrix Point Never, Actress, Dean Blunt, and Inga Copeland, the new New Age and Not Not Fun” - Tiny Mix Tapes “There are plenty of disarmingly pretty moments ... on Quarantine, yet even those strive for unsettling effect, finding beauty in uncertainty, confidence in the embrace of the unknown.” - Pitchfork This will be a unforgettable performance by an electronic dance artist at the height of her powers - don't miss out!
