hi adam, & ian, as one of the participants in this event, i agree with adam that it's problematic to be doing this symposium with proprietary software - for practical reasons as well as political. i can't get it to work at all on my linux computer, & on my "old" mac it's very unreliable, i can barely participate.
in 2012 when we organised the CyPosium we used the Waterwheel Tap very successfully for presentations & discussions, at times there were over 70 online participants & the platform performed really well. sadly it doesn't exist anymore. UpStage has also been used successfully for presentations, but it doesn't work on tablets or phones & has a few other limitations. right now we are working on the development of a new UpStage platform, which should be a viable open source browser-based accessible alternative for these kinds of online symposiums & collaborations as well as a cyberformance venue. i don't know exactly when it will be ready - we have a volunteer lead developer (Paul Rohrlach) & a team of students at AUT, so timeframes are flexible - but maybe we'll have something next year. if there is anyone out there who is interested in joining this development, collaborators are welcome. collaboration is the best (only??) way to make such projects sustainable (since finding funding is almost impossible!). you can find it on github here: https://github.com/upstage-org/limelight h : ) On 25.03.2018 22:49, Ian Clothier wrote: > Hi Adam, > > Later this year, although this is all being worked out now, Intercreate has > this idea of connecting with Bologna and Toronto as part of a suite of > projects.
