We are a registered charity that as a legal entity, enables independent artists to apply for community funds. Though we do not directly fund or produce projects, WIAT can and does provide necessary administrative support to facilitate the accomplishment of independent arts projects. WIAT was used to apply for some of its funding. It premieres at Whānau Mārama – New Zealand International Film Festival 2021 (https://wellingtonindependentartstrust.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a6defc5e7b7602a708c03696c&id=34b276f7de&e=66b1033758) screening across New Zealand from 6 November (https://wellingtonindependentartstrust.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a6defc5e7b7602a708c03696c&id=7ff0746402&e=66b1033758) . This BWX production, directed by Luit Bieringa, edited by Lala Rolls and produced by Jan Bieringa, grew from a popular biography by Damian Skinner and a subsequent touring exhibition titled Split Level View Finder. While the film draws from both the biography and the exhibition, it takes a significantly different path as it traverses the social and cultural landscapes from the late 30s through to Schoon’s death in the mid 80s. The film explores a gradual re-assessment of Theo's involvement in NZ art; his influence on some of the country’s major visual artists - both Pakeha and Māori - as well as the crafts community ensuring a little known but enduring legacy.
