Hey ADAers,

Quick note to let you know that I'm playing tomorrow afternoon at Audio
Foundation at 4pm . Here's a brief description:

Source Code brings together live, improvised violin with custom designed
software designed to dialogue with it. In this first concert of the 2022
Partitions & Resonances series, Johnny Chang, a veteran of the Berlin
experimental music scene, collaborates with Luke Munn, writer and coder.
Their work plays with and against the algorithm, exploring the possibility
space of the machine as a third agent. Borrowing from different
disciplines, the duo combines references to Western classical repertoire
with newer production techniques like granular synthesis. The result is a
trio of pieces that range from haunting, siren-like sounds, to frenetic
loops, chopped samples, and delicate layers.

For the technically minded, these are essentially web pages using the
(relatively) new Web Audio components, which allow you to do things like
listen to live audio and connect it to different "nodes" which alter it in
different ways. These are actually very simple patches but, more
importantly, the parameters and logic of each has been designed while
playing and rehearsing. From a cultural production point of view, it's
interesting that these could be open-sourced and then used/performed by
anyone with an internet connection and a relatively fast system.

Anyway thought I'd let people know, particularly those around Tāmaki
Makaurau. Might see you there.

best,
Luke
