[Trinidad] selectManyShuttle dummy item

Hi, I'm curious about usage of the dummy item placed at the very last 
position for both SelectManyShuttle lists -- e.g. the terminating line.
It's selectable, but docs say that it does not appear into any js selection.
It looks like a placeholder for something, but what for ? And btw - is 
there any way to remove it ?
