Just as we're getting started again, we've hit a hurdle. My questions to
Carl that I'm waiting for is:
o how much would CLUE's contribution be
o how can we handle the dynamic @linux.ca aliases (I'm not
a big qmail fan but I do like the way that it handles
all of the linux.ca aliases)
If anyone has an opinion on what to do here. I'm all ears. Minimally,
everyone's @linux.ca e-mail addresses are going to start bouncing on Friday.
I will have to post a note to everyone about this but...
Starnix is the secondary MX for linux.ca but if the aliases won't be coming
back for a while, it's probably better to take it away from the start.

Hi All,
I wasn't sure who really to contact, so I'm emailing all of you.
As you may or may not know, ladybug (the server that hosts clue) is
going to be upgraded. In particular, we're moving from qmail/ezlm to
Postfix/Mailman. In addition, we're going to upgrade it RedHat 7.3 from
the 6.2 it currently runs.
In order to best facilitate this, we're going to take the server offline
entirely for two days while it's being rebuilt from the ground up. We
will be restucturing the directory layout, and just fixing a LOT of
things.
Currently the target date for this is next weekend, Aug 23, 24, 25. This
may change but we hope not. I want to give you folks enough time to get
any important data off of the machine (mailist info, membership info,
web files, etc.) as we want to perform a complete reformat and reinstall
of the OS.
Additionally, back in the days when bandwidth was free, VLUG agreed to
host CLUE (www.linux.ca) as it wasn't a problem and we wanted to share
some of the benefits we ourselves had been given. Unfortunately, times
have changed. We no longer enjoy free bandwidth.
Our system is currently hosted with We Do Hosting (wedohosting.com) in a
co-lo arrangement. We actually do not pay a lot, but we do pay for
bandwidth used that is over 2GB/month. According to our reports, CLUE is
actually responsible for us consistnatly going over that limit. In order
to help us keep our bandwidth low, I offer a couple suggestions:
1) CLUE chips in some of the funds required to pay our monthly bandwidth
bill. We can discuss the amounts, but I'm currently thinking around 50%
of the cost each month.
2) If you can find a hosting service that can/will offer you cheap or
free rates, I encourage you do so and move the domain to a new host. You
may be able to come to an agreement with our hosting provider, I don't
know. If this isn't possible, #1 is a good low cost option.
Please let me know in the next few days to let me know what your
situation is and what you'd like to do. Also let me know when you have
all data off of ladybug so we can begin the overhaul process.
Rememember, that we're changing the underlying mail server and list
manager, so it may mean recreating things from scratch for your lists,
but the end benefit will be worth it.
