I would suggest you find some way to work with avi..whether you convert the file or 
find a way to transfer where it ends up in avi....otherwise you may be better off 
working with a software that can work with mpeg's IMHO

  The download from the Sony DCR- TRV 33E is in MPEG. The quality looked
  ok then with constant sound . I guess i need to make do with MPEG . To
  take the sound out and then edit again will be an idea. Will try that
  out. Is there any other potential problems that may occur with
  rendered movies not able to play the sound ? Did i missed clicking on
  some buttons to enable certain function? I would assume that the sound
  would be present with the visual when i put the clip into the timeline
  . Right?
