I use 6.5 too and the easiest way I'm aware of is to export the segment as a new AVI, then bring it in to replace the multi-track section and use it in V1a or b, as you normally would. You could probably replace it with a virtual clip and do the same thing but if it's relatively short, the other way is probably better.
