Open My Computer, find those files and tell us what the extension of those
files is. Are these .avi files, .mpg, .mov, .gif or what. If you don't see
the extension, click Tools->Folder Options, go to the View tab, and uncheck
the "Hide extensions for known file types" box.

One other thing... in Premiere, click Edit->Preferences and go to the Audio
Hardware box. Make sure that Premiere is using your audio card for playback
audio.

Good Luck,

I just started using Premiere Pro 1.5, and I am something of a
novice, although I have created videos using Video Explosion and MS
Moviemaker. I captured a number of clips from my analogue video
camera using Gigapocket, a program that came bundled with my Sony
computer. These clips run fine in Windows Mediaplayer. When I
import them into Premiere, they play fine in the clip monitor. But
when I drag them into the timeline, I get no sound at all. In fact,
in the waveform display, I get nothing but straight lines.

I have tried virtually every playback setting, but to no avail.
Anyone have an idea? I would greatly appreciate it.
