This is one way...maybe not the only way: Create a large photoshop file that contains your entire sentence. X by 480 pixels. Save an alpha channel of the text layer. Copy the Alpha channel contents to the RGB channel so your image not only looks black with white text, but also has an alpha channel that looks the same. Pull it into PPro, animate it on, say V1. Then export the V1 layer only (turn other layers off if they exist to numbered Targas (containing the alpha channel). Check the box that puts the resulting rendered/numbered files back into your current project. Next, you put your background video on V1, the video that shows through your text on V2, the numbered Targas from previous render on V3. Apply track matte key to V2, sourced to V3 with compositing set to Luma, not Alpha. Turn off visibility of V3 track. Render it and you should see nice results. I've quickly explained this without telling every little step, but if you've done this before, you'll know what I'm talking about. What I learned recently is that animating a single still image (keying the motion) does not work once the track matte is applied. It seems to freeze the motion. Does not quite work according to manual. Hope this works for you. If not, you could email off list and I'll explain further. I'd assume you could do this same thing using crawling text from the titler. Still, you'd have to render only that layer to numbered/sequential targas (or any output format that supports an alpha channel) and bring the result back on to V3 and follow same steps above. Hello all... I am trying to have a scrolling title move from right to left on the screen with the video showing through the letters.. I have attempted to use the track matte key to do this however it seems to cut off the word after the matte its applies so only the first 2 and a half letters show up and then nothing... I had used key frames so that the word scrolls all the way across the screen with a variety of different video clips providing the video in the background... Are there any tutorials on how this might be achieved? I used Wrigley's tutorial to achieve this effect with static text, but can't seem to get it to work with the scrolling text you often see in the opening sequence of a film.. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks... Yahoo!
