I think your problem is a menu setting in the camcorder. The day to day use 
of the RCA jacks is to send signal out to another device, like a VCR or TV, 
for monitoring or review. To bring signal in, you need to tell the 
camcorder to reverse its usual function - at least you do with my two 
Sonys. You'll find something in the menu that looks like "AV-DV in". That's 
what you want, and when it's set correctly you will see the VCR output in 
your LCD/viewfinder.

I tried what you said, it does not reconize the vcr.  It keeps wanting to 
play what is on the tape that is in the camera.
