When I was new at this, I did not understand the difference between
"Line" and "Mic" and sent "Line" from the house sound board into my GL-1
at a dance recital. Nearly exploded my headphones and I am glad I did
not mess up my camera!
I am glad to hear I am not the only one who has gotten mixed up with the
Pause button. I missed a best man's toast at a wedding, and instead
videotaped interesting things like the edges of tablecloths, the carpet,
and my shoes rushing over to get into a good position. The best man was
quite rude - it was a second wedding for the groom - and they thought I
left out the toast because I was trying to be polite. Sure, that's it!
Now I always, always, check for the REC display. It would be nice if
camera manufacturers would place "PAUSED" in big letters across the
viewfinder when the camera is paused.
