I must be either comletely dumb or there is something not right with 
my version of Premiere.

Glenn, I just tried exactly what you suggested without any luck, I 
can click next to a bunch of clips fine, it creates a nice little 
box on the timeline, but as soon as I try and drag it over the clips 
i want the pointer goes back to looking like the red letter E. 

This is really screwed, it doesn't matter if I start dragging from 
next to the clips or not it just won't select multiple clips. 

Does anyone know of another way to make a title look like its 
flashing ???
