OK guys and girls, here's my two cents (and I know it's only worth two cents,
my wife told me.)

In the editing world, we sometimes get wrapped up in our gadgets and goodies,
which of course includes our editing app. I fully agree that running an
editing app does not make one an editor. Whoever added that tidbit, thanks, I
will use it in the future. But I digress.

Have we forgotten that this type of discussion happens all over the computer
world? How about Windows vs. Unix? Microsoft Word vs. Corel WordWordPerfect?
We all have our reasons for using the apps we choose. I HATE Microsoft Word.
I have learned how to use it just to say to companies I deal with that I can
use it. But I prefer and USE WordPerfect whenever possibe. And nobody knows
the difference.

So what am I trying to say? I guess that we live in a world of prejudice.
Most people prefer Windows over the others because it is what they know, no
matter how bad it may be. Same with Microsoft Word. Same with FCP, it is what
they know, whether or not it is better. Unix is making its wave because
people use it and it is GOOD. Then they tell others and they try it out for
themselves. It is our job as Premiere users to do GREAT work with Premiere
and let the world know it when they see our work. Most may never change their
minds. But we must keep editing great works and let them speak for themselves.
C'mon my Premiere using friends, let's take the world by storm and leave them
gasping for Premiere.

(stepping down from soap box)

Just my thoughts.

Les, funny though in editing world they do ask, "do you edit in FCP?" :)
and of course, many people doesn't understand about editing, a good
editor's work is never noticeable on screen, because it supposed to
bring the story to live but not to annoys you with fancy cuts or crazy
effects... :)

Thanks for your comment ;)

wants FCP?

Hi all,

Well i agree that Premiere is just a tool for the job, Its the editors
skill that counts, and thats what the client is paying for. An editor
could learn another system in half a day, but you can't teach someone
how to edit in half a day!

I recently had someone offering to help out n my department, saying he
knew how to work an Avid, "yes, but can you edit" i asked, to a blank
look. Knowing how to work a camera does not make you a photographer!

I think you should sell your services on your editing skillis and
examples of your work.

If i employ a carpinter, i don't ask him what kind of hammer he uses!

Frank - The Adobe guy you mention, Daniel Brown I'm sure he's not the
rep here in Scotland. Maybe you are talking about the USA? Just a
thought to remind you guys that this is a worldwide group and not
everyone in the world lives in the USA!

Regards

Les
