Stan, You can turn off the programs running in the background by running the msconfig program. Click Start->Run then type msconfig in the window that opens, and press Enter. Click on the Startup tab, and turn off the programs you don't want running. Click OK, restart the computer if it asks you to, and enjoy your leaner, meaner XP box.
