Jeff,
I managed to get it to work with a little experimenting.  I used a track 
matte and made a rectangle where I wanted the title to disappear.  The 
sharp edge is okay, since I put the bottom edge of the matte at the 
bottom edge of the stationary logo.  I'm rendering overnight, so I'll 
find out in the morning if it worked the way I wanted it to.
