Hi! My advice would be to stay away from any brand, like Avid, that does not make drivers for their breakout box to make it work with other software. Also manufacturers that make software that can´t use other manufacturers hardware. Again: Avid and Digidesign. For audio I bought this "largerthanlife" Pro Tools HD3 system. Because Digidesign (owned by Avid) supports other software not too good, I feel a bit "captured". All this money into a system, only to find that the manufacturer has a lot of strange and very limiting policies. This limiting policy allows them to charge fantasy-like amounts of dollars for functions that come free with any other software. Like MP3 and CD import, surround export to multiple formats etc. For years Pro Tools hasn´t even got latency compensation. They just got it now, but Sonar and many others has had it for as long as I can remember. Nice to see all dialogue go out of lipsync when you add any bigger than very very tiny plugin, eh? Laughable. If it wasn´t for the money I´ll loose when selling the HD3 system, it would be out of here in a second.
I´ll never buy from any "limiting" manufacturer again, no matter how good their systems are. There is always good enough systems from the more friendly manufacturers also.
