Have you tried hiring interns? They might become full time editors, I've
used several interns for the last 5 years and have worked great, I get
them through universities and they usually intern free for exchange of
school credits, but when there's work, they get paid and it helps andof
course, helps me, obviously you will need enough computers for them to
work on :) (I have 7)

Farming it out is not a bad idea but you might want to be 'wary' of some
people might like to 'steal' that client away, since this is such a
competitive business (like most are), it seems that most 'editing'
clients want 'cheaper' rate than 'reputable' names, it's hard to
maintain a business easily when quality is more important than price...

So, if you do have to farm out, look for companies that you can be
trustful with and start small and slowly increase, I guessed, it's like
any type of relationship, if it meant to be, it will stick :)

Subject: [AP] Subbing out editing work....

I have been shooting weddings for several years now and have come to
the realization that I enjoy shooting the video much more than
editing and doing the final production. I also feel that I'm better
with the cameras than the computer and editing software. Does
anyone on here know if it's feasible to contract out the editing
portion of a wedding video production? Has anyone on here tried
that or I guess better yet, would anyone be interested in something
like that? I think I would like to continue doing weddings but I
would like to shoot the footage, come back to my office and
overnight the tapes to someone who enjoys editing more than I do and
who hopefully could do a better job than I do.

It's just an option that I'm exploring at this point. I haven't
been shooting but about 6 or 8 weddings a year but feel that I could
increase that number to 15 or 20 if I had help with the editing.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Maybe someone on here
has tried it and found that it doesn't work or maybe, just maybe it
might be the answer to my problem.

Thanks,

Jeff
