Even if you don't use a second monitor, having the port available but unused
will not adversely affect anything, as you guessed. Besides, you might
someday decide to add a 2nd monitor - which can be quite handy for video
editing.

oops! i knew i had another question: it seems the 4200 is a dual-monitor
card, which is all well & good, but he never (and probably won't) make use
of that feature. we don't really need that, but i guess if they're so
reasonably priced, it won't really make a difference?
