The people on the Adobe Premiere forum recommend to finish a project with
the same version it was begun. While CS5 will convert a project if it can,
they do admit that sometimes it cannot (I did not read thoroughly enough to
see if anyone explained under what conditions it could or could not convert
a project). But several people offered testimonials that even their CS2
projects were correctly converted by CS5.
If you are going to work an old project using CS5 they also highly emphasize
to make a copy of the project first, and to use the copy in CS5. The
explanation given is that once CS5 updates an old project into the new
format, there is no going back - that is, the older version cannot read
CS5's file format.
I remember early on trying a CS4 project in CS5 which did properly load and
convert the old project. But I haven't done so since and don't remember any
of the finer details.

Subject: [AP] Change to Win7 64bit
After a delay I have finally changed to Win7 64bit.
Both Premiere CS4 and CS5 work well in it BUT ONLY
with new projects.
I still have three unfinished projects on my computer.
When I want to continue with them, both CS4 and CS5 will
stop and close when I open them.
Would that be normal or does anybody have a fix for that?
Fortunately my dual boot system has come to the rescue.
I still have XP on the computer and installed CS4 into it and
the projects work there although they were all started with CS4
in Win7 32bit.
