Partitions on an internal or external data drive will probably just get in
the way of each other eventually and serve no purpose insofar as speeding up
data transfer.

However, I do partition my main drive (2TB RAID0) just to get the "C"
partition down to about 75G. I don't save any data files on the "C"
partition. But, when it comes time to create a backup image(s) of WIN7 and
all installed programs: well >>> that is much easier with a smaller
partition. Then, if I ever have to restore my "C" partition, I can do that
without wiping out the data stored on the remaining portion of the 2TB.
Just to keep things fast, the remaining part of my 2TB is for backup data
storage only. Any project files are stored on other HDD's.

or not ?

As Greg says, it won't help with CS5, but I, unlike Greg, I also find it to
be useless with organization. I can "organize" (or perform backups) just as
easily using folders; and sometimes separate drive letters can get in the
way.

Partitions are a carryover from more primitive days and I don't believe
there is any longer a convincing reason to use partitions at all.

Hello all: Recently added 1.5TB external sata drive. this will be
exclusively for video stuff..Still Pictures, Vid clips and exported final
files..
Is there any advantage in partitioning the drive to make computer/CS5
editing access easier? Maybe a dumb question but I have never seen any need
to partition a drive before. Thanks Kelvin
