Wal-Mart knows it is a sitting duck for get-rich-quick opportunists and
therefore, in all likelihood, got releases/waivers from all subjects, for
the very reason you state. The pervert, mentioned in the original post, who
tried to work with a hidden camera in all likelihood never gave a release
even a thought, and probably couldn't convince a judge or jury he had pure
motives.

Taking photos in and of itself involves no moral imperatives, but today's
law and prosecutor structure is built on respecting the personal wishes of a
sizeable number of people, so today's photographer/videographer also has to
respect those wishes - and to protect themselves, as I've often heard/read
"experts" advise, they should get releases (family members for
family-use-only excepted).

I've even read (in Videomaker) that taking photos/videos of private property
from a public street, such as of a store front, requires a release. Hmmm.

Then I was thinking: what if it isn't photos of women? What about sites
like http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ , where they're taking photos of
strangers that are shopping at Walmart? Aren't all of those photographers
guilty of felonies?
