Well, for such cases with still photos, if they have little or no compression,
it's surprising what detail can be lurking in what looks like very black areas.
Gamma correction/adjusting or equalizing the color balance can bring it out.
If you get big flat areas with no detail while doing the adjustments, it's not
there to be brought out.
Choose a short part of your too dark video and start fiddling with it using the
filters for contrast, brightness etc. Hopefully you can fix it without giving
it a washed out or hazy look.
