There is a media browser built into premiere.

The proper steps are to:

1. Open the media browser in Premiere
2. Drag the P2 footage into your bin.
3. Right-click on the file and modify its properties (ie. only use the audio
tracks that have sound on them) prior to using it in a sequence.
4. Load in the source monitor or drag to the sequence for use.

If you don’t do things in that order, you will waste a lot of time
manipulating your P2 footage in the sequence.

I have not from this specific camera but I can tell you that people have had
issues importing P2 files directly into the project window and no problems
with the same clips if they brought the clips in through the media browser.
