Julian, You are correct, there are offshoots to our beloved AVCHD derived from Sony et all, so I guess I jumped the gun and quickly responded to the message on my way out without thinking. Me bad. I think the confusion between the MT2S, MTS and M2T is a common error as they do look the same at a glance. Must book myself into Specsavers one day soon :-)
