I had issues with capturing HDV footage but never an audio sync problem. My
video was shot on a Canon H1 and A1 but I use a Sony HVR-M25 HDV deck for
playback/capture. My issue was that in CS3 and CS4 with HDV tapes scene detect
did not work and I always wanted individual clips. Premiere Pro facilitates
scene detect by the time of day meta data recorded on DV tapes, either HDV did
not do this or Premiere Pro could not read it. Every time you stop and start
recording even if only a second there is a break in time of day. I ended up
using Scenalyser Live to capture my HDV clips. It supposedly does an analysis
of the content to decide when the scene has changed...however it did it, it
worked. The type of work I am talking about was for Outdoor programing, Hunting
and Fishing shows. Maybe the reason I never saw sync drift was that my clips
were short, a min. or two would typically be the longest (many much shorter)
before the edit was made to another angle or view, Close up of hunter, then the
view of what he is looking at, extreme close up of his finger being placed on
the trigger, back to a wide shot, etc. cut, cut, cut.... I have not captured
any HDV in CS5.5, everything I have edited with it has been just transfered
digital files.
