Happy end of 2011, everyone -- and best wishes for a 2012 that
improves substantially on its predecessor.
I have an end-of-year question for people who still work with
Firewire-downloading camcorders and may have a computer that doesn't
have a Firewire port: how do you download your footage into your computer?
I know that you can get a Firewire card for a desktop computer or a
laptop with an expansion slot, but if you're using a computer that
has no expansion capabilities other than a USB port, is there a
working conversion device that converts Firewire to USB? I ask for a
friend who just bought three computers with no Firewire capability.
He bought a "Firewire to USB" converter that didn't work at all, and
after more on-line research determined that Firewire and USB data
streams are too different for easy conversion. That may be true, but
I'm not sure. I'm stuck on a ranch in extreme rural Montana with 15
minutes of Internet access a day, so I can't effectively Google the
question. I thought I'd ask here instead.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike Boom
