You can continue to use the 5.5 interface if you choose but the new interface really takes away nothing but just adds features. There are few changes in keyboard shortcuts, the biggest one that effected me is page up/page down changes to up and down arrow . Mostly just added more keyboard shortcut functionality. I am learning to use more keyboard shortcuts and really like the new trimming methods with being able to actually select an edit point. Everything else just seems to be added features that will take a little time to master but I was comfortable with it as a whole in just a few hours. Go for it !
