Our Low-Budget Filmmaking Tip o' the Day for August 28, 2012: -=-=-=-=-=-
Time to think in LAYERS! -=-=-=-=-=- Its great when you can do a sound effect or a sound bed from your stock sounds, but sometimes thats not enough. Sometimes you have to build it from scratch, maybe even build it using multiple tracks. Thats fine -- go ahead and do it. For one project, I was already running sixteen different sound tracks for various reasons, but needed the sound of a battlefield. After weeks of trying different things, I eventually found a solution. That solution was to build an entirely new sound, composed of layering an additional sixteen tracks, to get all the fine nuances and bits I wanted. Several of those tracks were me recording myself hitting things, including rebar smacks, wood smacks, etc. It took ages (big dramatic sigh), but the result was gorgeous. My ears loved it.
