DVD is usually something like 720x480 for 29.97 fps (Wikipedia has articles
giving you other DVD resolutions) and it uses mpg encoding. It can be SD or
widescreen. The fact that it came from film most likely is not particularly
relevant, because film is essentially "analog" which the conversion process
digitizes to whatever resolution the user-medium needs.
