You aren't going to move a db from one platform type to another. No way.
Your options are as follows: export and then import the server information
and client data, or keep the old server around until the data expires after
moving all of your clients to the new server.

If you have good, fast tape technology, export/import is a viable option
especially if all of your primary storage pool volumes are in the library.
Any manual intervention required will kill your chances of getting this done
in a reasonable amount of time.

I like the "keep the old server around" option with an export and import of
archive data from those clients using archive. Once you get your client's
data (the full backup is done again) on the new server most of your restores
will come from that system anyway with a few "further in the past" restores
requiring the old server.

I haven't done it myself, and I've seen others report there are
platform-specific data stored in the TSM db, which means you'd need to do
the equivalent of export/import from AIX to Solaris (UNLOAD/LOAD maybe?), to
overcome those dependencies. If it were me, I'd try doing a "restore" of
the AIX db to the Solaris file system... to determine for sure. Also, the
device class, library, drive id's are different between the two systems -
although, if you use the same names you might be able to trick the system
into working.

Subject: moving a server

I realize the topic has been discussed in the past but I'll ask again in
case someone has had more recent experience...

I would like to upgrade from ADSM 3.1 to TSM 3.7 AND change servers from
RS/6000 to Sun at the same time.

I don't plan to make any changes to the 3494/3590 devices but the disk
storage pools will, obviously, change.

Has anybody done anything quite like this?
Can you give me some pointers or pitfalls that I can avoid?
Is it going to require a server export/import or can I just use the database
backup tape?

Any suggestions, checklists, notes, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
