I don't know if this will work, but it's worth a shot.
In the query, can you try using the following: " ... upper(%1) ..."
And when run the script, put the node name between single quotes:
run script 'NODE'

I'm trying to create a script to switch node replication. I created the
following script:

The problem is that a SQL query doesn't seem to be supported in a script;
it's just not executed. Even when I change the syntax of the query to be
incorrect, no error is written to the activity log.
Has anyone have another suggestion how to do this? I want the def
nodegroupm command only to be executed when the node is not already part of
the nodegroup, just to prevent an error condition.
