We also run a few linux boxes here.

#1 You should consider using the dsmscheduler. It is not very difficult
and is easier to
centrally manage because you manage it from the TSM server.

#2 The web gui uses Java heavily. Make sure all the java options are
turned on in Netscape
or try upgrading Netscape. I get a gray box in Netscape and IE but they
go away. This
seems normal to me. Also make sure you are using Netscape. I've had
wierd results with
    other browsers like Konqueror.

#3 We also show more processes than other platforms but it does work and
has been working
    for over 8 mos now.

This may help a bit..

IBM eserver 1 950mhz cpu, redhat 7.1..

#1 - can't help you here.. I don't use cron to schedule backups. I run the
scheduler daemon.

#2 - Web gui works fine.. I don't get the grey box problem you describe.

#3 - Dsmcad - I also get 4 processes so I'm guessing that's normal. In fact
I get 3 "dsmc sched" processes when I start my scheduler. It's not clear to
my why but hey it works..

All in all, no problems backing up either of my two redhat 7.1 servers..

Subject: 3 weird Linux problems

I have 3 unusual (to me) problems after installing Tivoli ADSM client
4.1.2
on a RH Linux 7.1 machine with plenty of disk, RAM, etc. I haven't
given
up, but if you have any hints that would be wonderful. Note: our ADSM
server is performing fine with many Windows machines and an AIX.

1. Cron job often segmentation faults.

We're using cron instead of the ADSM scheduler because it's one less
thing
to know. Our VAR says it's probably the cron job running out of RAM and
directed us to /etc/security/limits.conf, but so far I'm clueless what
to
put there. I see references to this in the ADSM mailing list archives
at
http://www.mail-archive.com <http://www.mail-archive.com>

2. Can't browse to ADSM web server (dsmcad).

Paints a gray square and quits. VAR says to make sure my web browser
has
Java Virtual Machine installed. I believe it does - IE 5.5 and IE 6.0 -
works with another site that requires JVM.

3. Four dsmcad processes.

When I stop and restart dsmcad, 4 processes start up. VAR has no ideas.
The only thing "4" about this machine that I can think of is that it has
4
processors. VAR does not think this is causing problem # 2.

Thanks!
