Use "man 3 socket" and find: "If the socket subroutine is unsuccessful, the subroutine handler performs the following functions: Returns a value of -1 to the calling program. ..." What caused socket creation to fail needs more digging. If this happened once you can be warned (just an example - look description of "no -o sockthresh") but if it is repetitive then the things are bad.
