Do as Kelly suggests... When we moved a server out of one 3494 with 3590 B1A drives into a different 3494 with 3590 E1A drives, basically the same sort of action... we just set up the new library set the next pool of all our diskpools to nothing... took the old storage pools and renamed them to blah_old defined the old name storage pools again (you will use your new device class name) set the next pool of all our diskpools back to the proper storage pool name and you're good to go... we waited for a majority of the data to natrually expire out of the old library, then set the next pool of the blah_old names to point to the new/same/you_get_the_idea name and set the migration value down low and let TSM move the remaining data.
was really really smooth we just had to have both devices attached for about 6 weeks because most data bases are archived daily with a 35 day retention... later, Dwight -----Original Message----- From: Kelly Lipp [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2002 10:37 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: New device No, I don't think you will able to do that. But you can create a new pool in the new library, move the data or migrate it and then rename the pool when that is done (rename stgpool). Or better yet, rename the old pool and create the new one with the old name. Kelly J. Lipp Storage Solutions Specialists, Inc. I will receive a new library tomorrow. We will switch from a 3494 to a Ultrium 3584. I will have to migrate all my data to the new library, but I don't want to create new storagepools (standard naming convention, listed in various reference support manuals you know...). My current tapepool is using deviceclass 3590, what happens when I change the device class for the tapepool to the newly created deviceclass 3580? Can I still access the 'old' data on 3590 tapes? If so, I can use the next storage pool parameter to migrate all 3590 data to the new 3580 tapes, while all diskpool migrations go to the new 3580 devices. Thanks in advance for any reply!
