Guys, Why to wonder which is the filesystem filled, it is so simple - /usr. 1. AIX was recently upgraded. If upgrade filesets are committed the increase in /usr usage is small. If "apply and save replaced files" you will get nearly twice the size. 2. TSM is installed in /usr/tivoli/tsm/server, /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba, /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api, /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/domino, etc. If nobody have created separate filesystem /usr/tivoli then the filesystem on which TSM resides easily can be filled. 3. Default directory for server log files is /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin and default client log files are /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmerror.log and /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmsched.log 4. Default DB, LOG and STGPOOL volumes on install are also in /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin. And even when they are deleted from TSM the files *are not* deleted from the filesystem.
So the conclusion - /usr is filled and most probably the problem is that event cannot be logged and server is blocked. Resolution(s): - cleanup some logs there - commit AIX fileset updates (TSM ones also. Tivoli recommends to apply them and save files but why to keep 3.7.0 files when you are running 3.7.2 for long time) - check for db.dsm, log.dsm, etc. in /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin and delete all but tivready.dsm (or even it if do not intend to use Tivoli Inventory) - remove all unnecessary AIX filesets - X11.msg.ja_JP.*, bos.msg.de_DE.*, bos.html.fr_FR.*, etc. At least in our country factory preloaded RS/6000s are comming with all AIX languages installed. People around the world use them but for sure neither you nor they need all the languages to be installed. - if you have more than one AIX box there is no need HTML docs & help to be installed on each. Just setup one as "Documentation and Search Server" and remove help files from others. - as a *VERY LAST* resort increase size of the filesystem. All filesystems but / and /usr can be dismounted, deleted, created smaller and data copied back. The only way to shrink /usr filesystem is to re-install AIX from mksysb !!! All this is AIX stuff but affects TSM as in your case. We have a TSM 4.3.3.0 and using AIX 3.7.2.0. We recently upgraded our TSM level from 4.3.2.0 to 4.3.3.0 . On the AIX side, I'm receiving an error message: THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SPACE IN THE FILE SYSTEM At this point, we are unable to perform any activities. Can anyone assist me on where to check for this problem and what's a remedy for it? Swonda M.
