To complete a db restore using a drive in a 3494 you have to define the library as type manual and a drive within the 3494 as belonging to this manual library. The db restore tape(s) then has to be loaded into the drive manually (or via mtlib). This restriction needs to be removed. TSM servers should be able to use the full library function of a 3494 for db restores. Initial Impact: Medium LOCAL FIX: Define the library as type manual. PROBLEM SUMMARY: **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users whose database backup volumes are * * in a 3494 library * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The 3494 cannot be used with the * * RESTORE DB command, but the volumes * * can be loaded by changing the devconfig * * file to use a "manual" library, with * * the backup vols in that library. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The problem is a bug in the code that references the very database that is being restored by RESTORE DB. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: The bug is removed. -----Original Message----- From: Richard Cowen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, February 15, 2002 3:42 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: dsmserv restore db problem with 3494 libr Matching APARs. Note the dates and closed status. These are for 3.7 and 4.1. Pretty confusing. Does someone have a newer APAR? ================================================================ APAR= IC29523 SER= IN INCORROUT DATABASE RESTORE WILL FAIL FOR 3494 LIBRARY IF THE LIBTYPE IS NOT MANUAL IN THE DEVCONFIG FILE. ANR9999D admdbbk.c(4144): Error 272 creating device class 3590CLASS. The error above indicates that the libtype specified in the DEFINE LIBRARY command is manual, however, from the device configuration file we can see that this is not accurate: /* Device Configuration */ DEFINE DEVCLASS 3590CLASS DEVTYPE=3590 FORMAT=DRIVE MOUNTLIMIT=DRIVES MOUNTWAIT=60 MOUNTRETENTION=60 PREFIX=ADSM LIBRARY=3494 DEFINE LIBRARY 3494 LIBTYPE=349X DEVICE=3494 PRIVATECATEGORY=300 SCRATCHCATEGORY=301 SHARED=NO DEFINE DRIVE 3494 DRIVE1 DEVICE=//dev/rmt/0st ONLINE=YES . Based on the information in the device configuration file, the ANR8416E message is clearly erroneous. In order to successfully restore the database using the 3494 library, the customer must change the libtype in the DEFINE LIBRARY command to manual. The volume(s) required for the restore must then be mounted in the appopriate drive via mtlib. . To recreate this problem: 1. Create a devconfig file using the DEFINE DEVCLASS, DEFINE LIBRARY and DEFINE DRIVE commands listed above. 2. Attempt a database restore using the 3590CLASS device class (i.e. dsmserv restore db devclass=3590CLASS) . This problem has been seen on AIX and Solaris with the TSM 3.7.x and 4.1.x levels of Server code. ==================================================================== APAR= IC31194 SER= DD DOC THE TSM SERVER MANUALS DO NOT INDICATE THAT A DATABASE RESTORE CAN ONLY BE PERFORMED WITH A LIBTYPE OF MANUAL OR SCSI Status: CLOSED Closed: 10/01/01 Apar Information: RCOMP= 5698TSMAX TSM AIX SERVER RREL= R410 FCOMP= PFREL= F TREL= T SRLS: GC35040301 Return Codes: Applicable Component Level/SU: Error Description: When performing a database restore, only the libytpes of SCSI and MANUAL are supported.
