Haven't done this specifically, but I have one suggestion if it would fit.
If you know ahead of time when these "PIT" backups would be needed, then create additional schedules to do your backups at these times. Make sure they wouldn't conflict with the "normal" backup times. When we are going to do some type of upgrade, frequently I am resquested to change the daily backup time so backup is performed just before the downtime for the upgrade. You can have more than one schedule. Say a Daily schedule and a monthly schedule. They can do the same or different things, say a Daily Incremental and a Monthly Archive. Some thoughts.
