just to point out that legal requirements are only met, generally, by
ablative WORM media. that is, physically unalterable media once data has
been written. not tapes.

Tapes *can* be read by some utilities (in UNIX dd but not tar) but not
interpreted. You cannot ensure proper restore without DB backup but some
files/data might be retrieved. If this is undesirable - there is
encryption which is documented in manuals and this may fit your needs.

Hello Everybody,


    I have a customer that, for legal reasons, needs a document (something
official like a TSM manual, or a PDF in Tivoli's site) stating that TSM
records tapes in a format that cannot be read by standard OS utilities
(tar,
Windows backup). Has someone seen something like this?
