Andy is correct. If you would like to use adsmscsi to claim the tape drive, you will have to stop the NT driver that claims your tape drive. Since the drive has been claimed by the Window driver and adsmscsi does not find other device it can claim, adsmscsi will not start and you will get the message "The system cannot find the device specified.". You saw the device name \\.\tape0, that is a good indication that the drive has been claimed by the NT driver.
